Engagement & Dialogue
AREVA Resources continually engages and maintains open communication with communities and related stakeholders near its operations. This engagement and dialogue has allowed us to understand our stakeholders' needs. In turn, we are able to provide support, education, and opportunities particularly in the north.
Here are a few of AREVA's initiatives:
Site Visits
Many people want to see what a uranium mine and mill actually look like, so we host several site visits every year.
Northern Energy Tour
As a joint project between Cameco and AREVA, this consultation program brings the uranium industry into several northern Saskatchewan communities, where we explain current and future uranium development.
Northern Offices
AREVA has staff and offices in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, Baker Lake, Nunavut, and in Quebec. This allows AREVA to be close to the communities in which we operate. The door is open for anyone who has questions or comments on our operations and inquiries about employment and contracting opportunities.
Community Vitality Program
This is an initiative to assess community vitality (the social well-being and quality of life of residents) and the impact of uranium mining in northern Saskatchewan. The program outlines five priority areas:
- Environment & Land
- Health
- Economic/Social Infrastructure
- Communication
- Dynamics & Relationships
The Community Vitality Program produces several reports and documents:
Environmental Quality Committees (EQC)
The EQC was formed in 1995 following recommendations from the Federal-Provincial Joint Panel on Uranium Developments in northern Saskatchewan. The EQC's mandate is to help bridge the information gap between northerners, government and the uranium industry. By talking and learning together, all participants help ensure that uranium mining activities take place in a way that considers the needs and aspirations of all northern Saskatchewan residents.
